0305: Screen freeze on use of 'wide' and 'subt' buttons

HDR165 - both button screen freeze on initial use varies 10-40 seconds immediate subsequent use little or no freeze. Wait 10 minutes and the initial freeze returns sometimes longer.

500HDR10 - similar except 'wide' does nothing just freezes screen.

0303: Unable to search EPG with Info box permanently displayed

When searching for programmes in the EPG with the "text" key, if the "Info" box is selected then this resets after every cursor movement. This means that it is not possible to scroll up and down the sub-set of programmes with the Info permanently displayed, making searching very tedious.

0300: After OTA to V.4.6 - Box unresponsive during recording plus corrupted recordings and book now 'bleeding'

When recording, the remote is taking at least 10+ seconds to respond, subsequent pressing is erratic sometimes fast others another 10+ seconds.
Two recordings so far are corrupt - get a frozen picture with sound working in the background. The LED display then jumps to 33 minutes and sound is speeded up and not recognisable, screen blanks, skips more time and then returns to library.
Second recording has same problem and noticed that the recording had not stopped after an hour, checked the epg and it was empty - had to manually stop recording.
The book now (green button) is being displayed during playback of recordings. It appears even if you are not switched to the same channel as the booking.

Not sure if I've got this right but here goes...

I have a Hitachi HDR325 which I gather is a re-badged Vestel machine. In the last few days it has been going into deep-standby when switched off via the remote, despite my de-selecting this option in the Configuration menu.

I see from this site that there has been a software update (to V4.6) and I was wondering if this had introduced a bug.

0302: Phantom timer entries

0159: Deleted timers re-appearing

On a few occasions, I've deleted a series record timer via the timers list (that is, the entire series timer - not just the timer for a single event), and some time later it has mysteriously re-appeared in the timers list as if I had never deleted it.

An extreme case where this problem showed up was when I was testing EPG slowdown with a first time install + no automatic channel scan + manual channel scan on Mux 1. As you know, a FTI deletes all timers, but when I did this last night I had a series timer reappear in the timers list which had been set before the FTI on a different mux some time ago (actually, I had manually deleted that series timer a week or so ago).

"TV out" configuration options of RGB or CVBS allows user selection of CVBS and this displays the picture correctly. However, when the T835 goes into LP standby and is then restarted, the TV Out setting reverts to the default RGB and a resulting distorted picture. Note that when this occurs the menu option still shows CVBS selected but the unit is actually using RGB output. A quick toggle of the option restores the CVBS output but it is unacceptable to do this after every boot.

0167: Jumping/stuttering problems after Winter Hill DSO

After digital switchover (2nd December 2009) of the Winter Hill transmitter, owners of Vestel PVRs (see http://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/allmodels.php [^] for a full list of brands/models) in the Granada region having been reporting problems with their PVRs with common symptoms being live tv and/or recordings jumping/stuttering which never happened before the switchover, which may happen all the time or just when recording (perhaps specific channels only).

If you are one of the affected PVR owners, you are encouraged to add a note to this page. Before doing so, please perform the following:

1. Press the MENU button on the remote and navigate to the installation page of the setup menu.
2. Choose the "First time installation" option - this will erase your channel list, favourites, timers and other settings, but your recordings will remain.
3. Follow the prompts as they appear but choose NOT to perform an automatic channel scan when asked.
4. Instead, press the MENU button again and navigate to the installation page of the setup menu.
5. Choose the "Manual channel scan" option.
6. Enter "55" using the remote and make a note of the signal quality and an approximate percentage reading of the signal strength.
7. Now press "OK" on the remote
8. Once scanning is complete, go back to step 6 and repeat the process four more times instead entering the following numbers: 58, 59, 61 and 62.
9. All channels from Winter Hill should now be scanned in and you can use the PVR as normal to see if the problems remain.

Whether the above solves the problem, or if the symptoms still persist, please add a note below including the following details:

1. PVR make/model (e.g. Hitachi HDR162)
2. Software version (can be found in the configuration page of the setup menu)
3. PVR hardware model - T810, T816, T825 or T845R (can usually be found on the stick on the underside of the unit)
4. Your postcode (just the first part if you'd rather not post it in full)
5. The signal quality and strength readings for each of the 5 channels from the above procedure
6. Description of the symptoms and any other information you think is relevant (if you need to add any information later, please login and edit your existing entry)

0209: Video + audio jumping / stuttering on playback

Live TV Freeview from Sandy Heath on all channels OK, viewing through Panasonic TX-L32G10B LCD TV.
Recordings made on PVR Techwood AEDTR80S7 before DSO (March & April 2011) were perfect in live off-air and playback mode - all channels. After DSO live off-air OK, but immediate unwatchable playback on Channels ITV4 / BBC2 / Film4. This persists to this day even though I appear to have received (0300hrs?) an OAD update to the PVR software.

0225: Jumping stuttering while recording both on recoded program and live program

Following switchover at local transmitter problem of stuttering and lost video segments (jumping) and lost of sound/vidoe sync became apparent on recoded programs and on live programs while recording other channels.
V13 software was manually installed via rs232. This did not resolve the problem.

After the introduction of the v13.0 software fix in relation to 0167, some users are finding that the fix makes no difference to them. For those people interested, Vestel are requesting more information from affected users who are using the v13.0 software. Please add a note below including the answers to at least the first 8 questions - the rest are relatively technical, so don't worry if you are unable to answer all the questions:

1. PVR make/model? (e.g. Digihome DTR80)
2. Which retailer/shop/website did you buy it from and when?
3. The name of the transmitter that your box receives its signal from? (or your postcode if you do not know)
4. Which channels are likely to have the problem?
5. Did you have exactly the same problems before the software update, or has there been some improvement?
6. Does the problem exist only during the record activity with live channel watch or exists on normal live channel without any record activity?
7. Is there any other specific steps / conditions which leads this problem to occur always / more often etc?
8. If Digital Switchover has happened in your area, did this problem start then, or did you still have the problems before Digital Switchover?
9. Is the problem present on every channel in the same mux?
10. If you know the mux / UHF channel numbers that your box is tuned to, please list them
11. What are the signal levels on each of the 5 or 6 muxes given on the manual channel scan screen?
12. Is there any analogue channel in the RF spectrum? Which channel? (in case you live in a region where DSO has not happened yet)

All information gathered here will be collated and sent directly to Vestel.

0265: Box will lock up when HDD is nearly full

When you have series timers set and the disk is nearly full, if the software thinks there is not enough free space when setting timers, it displays a message about this and requires OK to be pressed. That's fine, but it seems this message also appears when the box is not in use by the user - i.e. in standby (low power off) or when waking up from low power standby (e.g. to record a programme).

The end result in these cases is that the box locks up and fails to respond to the remote or the power button. The only way out is to pull the plug, and ensure it is switched on quickly enough to get at the timer list before the messages appear and lock the box up again.

0251: After channel rescan BBC channels missing

After PVR suggested a rescan for new channels, i can no longer receive BBC 1 and BBC2 (CH1 and CH2) Tried same steps as everybody else, resetting to factory default, switching off, manual retune, unplugging aerial amplifiers etc, to no avail.
If i go to one of my favourites and select CH1 or CH2 then picture freezes and can only be released by changing to any other channel.

0260: Issues with Luxor T836./ DVB 690 (Vestel Re-brand)

I'm now on the third box from e-buyer and all boxes
have dispayed the following issues:

Random re-boots

System Freezes (which can cause timers to be missed)

Programmes splitting into multiple parts on recording

These are infreqent but are excerbated by viewing the
BBC news channel (I believe it's Freeview 80)
which caused all of the above to occur more frequently.

I no longer consider these to a problem with a single
product but a firmware error in all of the T836 boxes.
Can you tell me whether it is going to be sorted out?

I cannot find a key sequence which will replicate these
problems but seemingly watching the BBC Newstation will
frequently start it off. I have had other occasions where
the Timer, Recording Library and Back key seem to trip a
re-boot or freeze. I've had two events where a programme
has been split in three parts and a couple of occasions where
a freeze has caused a programme to be missed. The frequency
is random but persistent.

0208: User Control Software & Timing problems

1. Frequently both the remote control and the front panel buttons are sluggish in the extreme, taking maybe 30 seconds to respond, or even a hard re-boot to get any response. Sometimes the delay maybe a couple of seconds. This is normally only when a recording is in progress, but not always.

2. Sometimes the use of OK button to access the channel list does nothing, although if I switch to a BBC channel, it does work. BBC may be a coincidence, just the change enabling the feature.

3. Series Timer recordings can either not start at the beginning, missing, say, 15 minutes, or stop after, maybe 30 seconds. This is for a previously un-recorded episode, as I guess the system can (or should, but doesn't always) recognise a previously saved copy of that episode.

following the download of v13,
my recorder will not run normaly on the low power setting,
1-the unit continually locks up from standby,(requireing power down boot)
2-the screen logic does not auto select,(have to reset in menu continually)
3-wide screen button has various weird effects(depening which format is selected),
4-on screen display info lost,timer ability lost,record next lost,

i have found disabling low power stand by does overcome the major start up problems,but the screen needs to be reset in menu to wide after over night standby.

note- the jittering/screen blackout (??caused by interferance has been cured??)

Problem has been getting gradually worse over last few months, ie picture playback of recording is pixelated and picture and sound are also out of sync about 2 to 5mins.
have tried factory reset, also erasing whole hdd.

11. Signals 'very good' on all except 56 & 59 which are 'good', level estimated at at least 70%, usually 80% +.

0203: Cure for jumping/dithering

Having read the experience of one reporter who got an improvement by increasing the value of the 5v power supply decoupling capacitors I tried this as a last resort. The jumping when playing back recordings is virtually non-existent and I am still playing back some recordings made before doing the mod.
I must add that this modification should not be undertaken lightly by anyone without experience of working with electronic equipment. It involves a fair bit of dismantling and a soldering operation on a delicate printed circuit board.

0193: Recordings duplicated on "+1" channels

When recording a program on (for example) Ch4 it is also recorded on Ch4+1 an hour later. This seems to happen on all the "+1" channels.
The software is V1.6 so hopefully fixed in later versions. How can I get hold of the latest version 2.2 and how to load it via the scart socket?
